Students will acquire expertise in the development of conceptual models, turning them into computational models i. A range of spatial-temporal models will be examined, programmed and applied to real-world problems that often require "big data" solutions. Students following the GeoComputational Modeling track will master the principles surrounding GeoComputational models and be able to write computer programs to create spatial-temporal models in both the research and application domains. The Distributed and Web-based GeoComputation track is designed for students interested in GeoWeb services, spatial data infrastructures, cloud computing, location-based services, and Big Geospatial Data.
The track focuses on the use and development of these technologies, including OGC web services, map service setups for raster and vector tiles, as well as distributed computing solutions such as MapReduce and Hadoop. The Distributed and Web-based GeoComputation track will prepare students to develop and manage geospatial software solutions that make use of the above-mentioned technologies.
The goal of this concentration is to help students fast track into positions in GIS management. As part of their education, they work with and learn from current GIS managers to look beyond the technical realm and understand GIS in a larger institutional context. Requirements includes regular attendance at seminars, presentation of the students work at a student seminar, and preparation of a literature review. Thorough introduction to geographic information systems GIS using multiple desktop and web-based GIS with an emphasis on spatial data handling and project management.
Surveying and Planning, MSc in Technology, Cand.Tech.
Conceptual introduction to GeoInformatics and geographic information science. Focus on theoretical aspects of GIS and spatial temporal information. An overall introduction to remote sensing, particularly focused on the use of satellite imagery to study our environment.
A comprehensive course in programming that concentrates on object-oriented programming methods and algorithms specific to geographic and cartographic applications. Required for Thesis Option only. Formal approval of a proposal for thesis research is also required. Most students choose a principal area of concentration i.
Students are allowed a maximum of six credits from independent study courses, except in rare circumstances when the MS GeoInformatics advisor and the student's academic advisor agree to allow more. Some portion of the remaining six credits may be selected from Geography graduate courses or outside the Department of Geography e. The following is a non-exhaustive list of elective courses currently offered:.
The primary software used for this course is the R statistical programming language. Models and algorithms for advanced spatial and temporal modeling are examined and programed.

The programme runs 22 months and is taught by world-class faculties in Sweden Lund University and the Netherlands University of Twente After graduating, you will be able to work effectively in many roles in the soc Master's Programme in Geoinformatics turns students' talent and hard work into excellence.
After graduating, you will be able to work effectively in many roles in the society, applying and utilizing current knowledge of geoinformatics, and to contribute to the further development of the field. Geoinformatics engineers are usually present when crucial decisions in our society are prepared. Analysis and visualizations of accurate geographic information typically reveal essential information for decision-making.
Welcome to Geoinformatics
This degree is an excellent choice if you want to tackle big societal challenges such as climate change, security and urban development, or if you dream of creating advanced mobile applications Modern life more and more relies on BIG DATA and digitized work processes — geoinformatics helps to manage and analyse contemporary spatial data and make decisions on development and policy. The online Master of Science in GIS is geared to part-time professionals and focuses on the principal avenues of employment within the next generation of geospatial design, development, and analysis.
Our faculty members are thought leaders and innovators in the new data science that is GIS. Our courses, available entirely online, provide a convenient, interactive platform to explore geographic information systems as part of the dynamic field of cloud computing, big data analytics, and spatial data mining and modeling It is designed to provide you w The importance of the spatial dimension in examining issues such as regional development, land use planning and environmental monitoring is widely recognized. In work of this kind, it is necessary to interrelate information derived from various sources such as census, maps, surveys, aerial photographs and satellite imagery, each of which may utilize a variety of methods for spatial referencing.
The field of remote sensing deals with the science and technologies used to acquire aerial and satellite imagery, convert them into geographically located digital images and extract from them useful information about the surface including vegetation cover, the extent of urban areas and water bodies.
The management of geographic information is now integral to decision making processes at local, national and international scales. Globally, the rate of spatial data capture has never been greater.
The data requires appropriate management to ensure quality, correct usage and robust solutions derived from the data. Specialists are required to generate, manage and advise on data use in both the private and public sectors. Geospatial technologies affect almost every aspect of life, from navigating an unfamiliar neighborhood to tracking patterns of diseases in populations. According to the U. Department of Labor, geospatial technologies is one of the three high-growth industries of the 21st century. That translates into big opportunity—and with an Elmhurst M.
Worried about the technology requirements? No need to. As a student at Elmhurst College, you have free access to a virtual machine environment from any computer with an internet connection. This gives you high-end processing power from a regular computer Advance your career in just 18 months with no formal research and thesis. Geospatial technologies, ranging from GPS-enabled devices and satellite remote sensing to combining data sets into a visual representation, are an integral part of our interconnected world and can be applied in a wide range of industries including agriculture, healthcare, energy, and transportation.
